How to Prepare for Kindergarten + A Giveaway

School is literally right around the corner for us. I'm partially in denial that I will have a kindergartener as of next week. These past few weeks have been spent preparing Zander (and myself) for him to be in real school.

|| Go to the Kindergarten Round Up.
Shortly before the school year ended, the Pre-K told us about the kindergarten round up night. This gives the kids (and parents) a chance to see the school before the open house at the beginning of the school year. Here, you can tour the classrooms, the computer lab, library, and more to get a sense of what the kids will be doing during their day. Also, the kids get to ride the school bus since most have never ridden one before Kindergarten. Zander learned all the bus rules here.

|| Get your supply list early.
Y'all, the closer the first day of school gets the faster supplies at the store disappear. We took a trip to the school about a month ago to get the list and buy early. We still need to get a bookbag and a few new pairs of pants, but this weekend is tax free in Georgia so we'll be doing some shopping this weekend!

|| Practice buttoning pants and tieing shoes.
This is something I did not consider working on over the summer until we went to the kindergarten round up. The kindergarten teachers actually suggested it. But seriously, I never realized how many times I've had to re-tie Zander's shoes or help him (and Ainsley) button their pants after going potty. Yes the teachers will still help. Zander still hasn't mastered tying his shoes, however he can button his pants (and jackets) with ease now. One less thing for the teachers to help with.

|| Look for letters and numbers everywhere.
Zander is still not reading, however he does know his letters and numbers. From driving to the store and back or just reading together at home I am always asking him to identify letters and numbers and the sounds they make. Even with doing this will help him develop his ability to read while he's in school. Some kids are reading at his age, but we're not really pushing a whole lot. He practices writing his first and last name daily.

|| Have tissues ready.
If you're dropping your kindergartener off in the car, or if they're riding the bus (like Zander) tears are almost guaranteed. Zander is my oldest. This is our first school experience. I totally cried when he went to pre-k last year. Kindergarten marks the start of his school career. It's real that he's really growing up. I'm fighting tears now.

Hell... might as well have the wine ready for when they get home and celebrate how much fun they had, and how much they can't wait to go back!

|| Take lots of pictures.
These are the moments made for photo albums. New friends. New memories. All of that. Time goes by quickly and you don't want to miss a single thing.

And now for a real treat, especially with back to school around the corner! Hope and I have teamed up with Firmoo to giveaway one FREE PAIR of glasses from Firmoo.com!! I've worked with Firmoo earlier this year, and I absolutely stand by this company 100%. This is a great chance to win an amazing pair of prescription glasses!

YOU Are Beautiful + A Giveaway!

Do y'all remember last summer when the "Don't Try So Hard" linkup was around? No? Well, I loved it. It was fun. I loved seeing so many bloggers posting pictures of themselves without makeup. They were raw, they were in their own skin. They were BEAUTIFUL.

Lauren & Emelia's You are Beautiful linkup reminds me of the "don't try so hard"

Y'all, I'm a newly stay at home mom... In case you didn't already know. The job description doesn't call for me having to dress up or impress anyone. It's really such a relief though! I can literally stay in my PJ's all day if I want to. The kids could too.
I do, however get myself and the kids dressed daily. We do go outside to play and that usually requires real clothes. Especially since it's been so cold lately.

You know what though? Not making an effort doesn't make me feel less beautiful. I don't need makeup or fancy clothes to make me feel pretty. In fact, I prefer to feel that way.
My kids are always watching me. Always. (Let's face it, y'all... I don't even pee in private). TMI? Maybe. But it's the truth.

What does that have to do with anything though? Well, I feel like carrying myself in a way that says "I feel good no matter what" is an important lesson to my kids. Eventually they'll both be in the real world. I want them to know that you don't need to look a certain way to feel beautiful. True beauty comes from the inside.

So, yes... I AM beautiful. I'm beautiful because I say so. I'm beautiful because I have two amazing kids and a supportive husband. I'm beautiful because I have the best blogging tribe, EVER. I don't need fancy makeup, clothes, or hair products. I'm good knowing that I am full of love.
It's taken me many, many years to get to that point. If you had asked me 5 years ago, I most likely wouldn't have been so confident. Sad, yes. True, absolutely. But I'm past that. I grew up.

To you reading this post, you ARE beautiful. You don't need anything to make you look beautiful. You have a beautiful soul. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise.
You Are Beautiful

And guess what else?

I'd Like to Thank The Academy + A Giveaway!

I'm sorry that I don't have an official speech planned. This was completely unexpected. I'd like to thank my new friend Mary-Keith for nominating me for the Liebster Award. If you haven't checked out Mary-Keith you totally should! She's just the sweetest. Love her!

The Rambling Llama

This award comes with some rules though. Good thing I'm not a rule breaker (today).
  • Post 11 random facts about yourself
  • Answer 11 questions asked by the person that nominated you
  • Nominate a few bloggers (with less than 200 followers) to do the same
  • Let the bloggers that you nominate know that they've been nominated!
Easy peasy, right? Right! So let's get to the fun part!

11 Random Facts About Me
I've done 7 random quirks about myself, but I'm guessing those don't count so let's start from scratch.
  1. I went to three (yes, THREE) different high schools.
  2. I had my belly button pierced and tried to hide it from my dad. He found out when it got infected.
  3. I'm the first girl in 50 years on my dad's side of the family
  4. I was the first grandchild to make my grandparents on both sides of my family Great-Grandparents
  5. I'm not the oldest grandchild.
  6. I burn almost everything I attempt to bake. (don't expect homemade cookies if you come to visit me)
  7. I like to dip my french fries in milkshakes. Especially strawberry milkshakes. YUM!
  8. Whenever I see Minnesota typed out, in my head I read it like they say it up north: "Min-EH-soooooohh-DAHH"
  9. People from Minnesota make fun of the way I say "Y'all".
  10. I would prefer to just have a cup of coffee for breakfast but I force myself to eat so I get my metabolism going
  11. I'm friends with more people that are 10-12 years older than me than people my own age. I feel like I have an old soul
Mary-Keith's Questions

1. Do you like Christmas music? I do! My birthday is ON Christmas. It's always been my favorite holiday, and I really love the music!
2. Do you like to cook? Yes. I'm actually better at cooking than baking. My pinterest has a food board, but I've only ever attempted the ones that don't require baking.
3.Do you watch Gilmore Girls? Gilmore Girls is one of my all time favorite shows. I love that so many people are re-watching it now. This was something I'd watch everyday after school.
4. What is your favorite hobby? Do you remember sand art? Actually, I really love doing the arts and crafts projects that you can buy in a kit at the stores. candle making kits, key chain kits, etc. I love doing them with the kids.
5. What are three goals you have in the next 10 years?

  • Buy a house. We've been renting for as long as we've been together. We're saving up to buy our own house
  • Be at a steady job with benefits and minimal risk of me being let go
  • Go back to school. I don't have a college degree. My friend Amanda from Knock on Wood has inspired me that going back to school in your late 20's isn't that hard or scary!
6. Do you watch reality T.V.? Not as much as I used to. I still love America's Next Top Model along with a few others, but our T.V is mostly on PBS Kids lately.
7. How do you feel about your current job? Welllll. I loved it. I really enjoyed going everyday. However, last Friday I was let go. I'll post more about that later. I'm still having a hard time processing it.
8. What is your most embarrassing moment? HA! That can be summed up in one picture:
This was my birthday party in 2006. I was in the bathroom, and Josh ran in with the camera to snap a picture. This was me screaming because he scared me! At the time we had only been dating for a few months.
9. Any hidden talents? I can speak gibberish. I can also knit. I don't know if those are hidden, but that's what I can do!
10. How do you  feel about flying? I love it! I've been on planes several times. The first time I flew I was 10 or 11. We flew to Wisconsin to visit my Aunt. My favorite flight is to St. Thomas, US Virgin Islands though. ;)
11. What did you want to be when you were little? A vet. I've always had a deep love for animals. After 10th grade, this changed to wanting to be a Chemistry Teacher.

My Questions to the nominees

  1. What made you start blogging?
  2. Do you have any nicknames?
  3. What's one thing you'd have to have with you if you were deserted on an island?
  4. What is your guilty pleasure?
  5. What is your favorite movie quote?
  6. What is your go-to accessory staple?
  7. What is the best thing you've ever cooked?
  8. If you were one of the four seasons- which would you be and why?
  9. Where you born in the state (or country) you're currently living in? If not - what brought you there?

Grateful Llama / Grateful Giveaways

Happy Monday, y'all! I had a really amazing weekend. It's hard to believe it went by so fast!
//Small Recap
Saturday I went to the park with one of my best friends. I've known her since middle school. The kids had a blast! The best part was, the park we met at had a pond with a trail around it; So once the kids got too worn out from climbing, we walked around the trail and threw leaves into the water.

Sunday my dad and step mom came over. My dad has been to our new house plenty of times since we moved in July, but my step mom had never been here.

In the spirit of Grateful Heart Mondays with Emily from Ember Grey, I'm grateful for weekends like these. We didn't do a lot, but it still so fun.
