Current Events from the Kids' Point of View

Many of us keep up with current events, right? We know what's going on (for the most part) in the world around us. We know what the weather is going to be like... or what it should be like... in the next few days, and we know which sports teams won the previous night. We stay up to date on our current events. And hey, if you're like Kenji, you keep up with all of the award shows! Heck, some of us can even spout out the silly laws that our states have!

However... What if you're two and five? Current events and news mean absolutely nothing.

"We get to take walks." I swear, there's something about walking somewhere that gets these gets so excited. So maybe it's a good thing that I don't have a car for now. Walking to the library and the park is always the best part of the day when we do it. This is a good one for me because it tends to tire them out to the point of they put themselves to bed at night!
This is more important than Georgia Senate passing the hot car bill.

"Yes, let's put that poll there."

"Mommy doesn't like PBS Kids." It's true. I really don't. I tolerate it because it's one of the few channels that has relatively educational programming when the kids do watch T.V. When I take over the T.V. though it goes straight to HGTV. Zander has told strangers in the store on numerous occasions that I don't like "pbskids.org". More proof that kids hear more than we think they do!
This is more important than the law that it's illegal to tie giraffes to a light pole in Georgia.

"Ainsley hit me!" I can't tell you how many times I've heard this during the day. No, I didn't sneak a typo in there, either. Ainsley is in fact the bully out of the two and when she doesn't get her way, she takes to hitting. (Insert heavy sigh from me here)...
This is more important than Savannah, GA selling St. Patrick's Day parking in advance.

"I didn't hit him, I was just reading quietly."

"When we think Mommy isn't looking..." we do a lot we aren't supposed to. Ainsley is the worst. There may be several chairs in the kitchen with sharpie drawings on them. Doritos have been purposefully dumped on the coffee table. They also tell each other to smell the other's feet. There's something about stinky kid feet that really cracks them up.

"Mommy is mean". This can be a blanket statement for a number of things, but specifically I won't let the kids eat condiments for dinner. Sorry, kiddos but honey mustard is not a main course.
This is more important than Atlanta mayor's car booted for illegal parking.

"But Mom, I really want to eat all of the honey mustard!"

I do think "adult" current events are important, so please don't misunderstand that. And I do realize there's more going on out there than just "Georgia related" stuff. I maintain the fact that this is my little space, and I can write what I want. So there!
What current events would you say we really need to know about right now? Is there something more important than the crazy winter weather?

Conversations at Dinner

Happy Sunday, y'all! I hope you had a great Valentine's day... even if it was like Kasey, with your best friend, Jose.  We spent the day like any other day. My mom and brothers came over for a bit. If you follow me on instagram, you saw my brothers practicing skills of tying each other to trees. Great fun. Afterwards, me, Josh and the kids went to movie stop to find a few new movies. My "valentine's" gift was The Lucky One. I cannot get Josh to watch it with me though. The night ended with dinner at Applebee's (aka Monroe's finest "date night" facility). Ha! It really was a great day. I wouldn't change a thing.

My Conversations! 

To set the scene: last night we were sitting at Applebee's. It was me, Josh, the kids, Josh's best friend (for the sake of this we'll call him D) and his 2 kids. So three adults, 4 children. 
I was telling them about when I went to an NA / AA meeting to support some friends. 
Me: Yeah, when they went around the room saying first names & "I'm an addict" and stuff like that I decided to be a smart alec. 
Josh: Um... Babe? What did you do?
Me: Nothing serious. I simply said, "Hi! I'm Dory and, well um... I don't think I've ever eaten a fish!"  *all dying of laughter*
 (I've never done any drug, so me being at a meeting like that reminded me very much of Dory going to the fish anonymous meeting!) 
Me: Everyone at the meeting thought I was hilarious! 
[several minutes pass and the waitress finally comes to see us. She starts to tell us about the specials]
Waitress: Oh no! It looks like y'all don't have the salt and pepper caddy! I needed that to show you the new drinks. 
D: Were the people before us black?  (( D is in fact black himself )) --long pause-- D: I bet they stole the caddy!
Waitress: *dying of laughter* OH MY GOSH! That's the funniest thing I heard all night!
Josh: *spewed his sweet tea!* Good grief, man! You could warn someone before you make a comment like that! 
Waitress: Don't worry, I'm not offended! That was hilarious. 
Josh: But I made a mess! 
And that, friends is pretty much how the entire night went. There were several moments that we all made the waitress blush and burst out with laughter. It was a great night for sure!

Once Upon A Time...

...In a far away kingdom, there was a beautiful maiden.

haha, sorry y'all we're not making up stories today. I'm actually referring to the TV Show. Have you seen it?

Let me back track a little bit in case you're like me and had no clue until now. The show airs on ABC. Currently they're in season 4. Which of course means this is the year Josh and I decide to tune in. We had zero intention on getting hooked. It airs on Sundays and we usually don't have a "Sunday" show now that True Blood is gone. So we flipped it on during the season premiere this year and we were hooked. HOOKED, y'all!

So naturally we did the smart thing and started with season one. Except we're still watching new episodes of season 4 every Sunday too. Y'all I'm telling you this show is so good.

Quick summary: The Evil Queen from Snow White casts a curse on all enchated folk which causes them to get stuck in Maine and lose their memory. Snow White and Charming have a baby, but they send her away to keep her safe. She's the key to breaking the curse. On her 28th birthday she comes back to the "kingdom" (Maine) and the curse starts to break. Throughout the season we're introduced to all of the characters and they explain more about their different stories.

Things I Learned (about stories I thought I knew) that I find fascinating.

Rumpelstiltskin is everywhere. Not even kidding a little bit. Apparently he's not just the gold-spinning / baby stealer that we knew and loved. He used to be a regular man... with a kid. He got his powers from killing some sort of "dark one" and inherited the powers. He then abandoned his kid and proceeded to intertwine himself into everyone else's lives. What I've found out from season 1 is he is "Beast" from Beauty and the Beast, in season 2 he's the croc chasing after Captian Hook, and he makes an appearance in just about every other story. Not even kidding. But his character is so funny to me.

There used to be 8 dwarves. Yes, 8. Stealthy Dwarf was killed by Prince Charming's father's guards.

Prince Charming, btw isn't even a real Prince. He had a twin brother  that Rumplestiltskin stole and gave to the royal family. His twin brother was supposed to fight a dragon, but got killed by some random bad guy so in order to keep a deal with King Midas going bad the King had Rumple get the other twin (Charming). Are we still following along?

Gepetto is an orpahn. Rumplestiltskin (see? I told you he's everywhere!) gave Jiminy Cricket a curse to kill his own parents. Instead it was given to Gepetto's parents; turning them into little wooden puppets. Jiminy was so guilty about it that he wished upon a star to change the parents back. The fairy godmother couldn't change Gepetto's parents, but she was able to change Jiminy into a cricket so he could be Gepetto's conscience.

Josh cracks me up when we're watching because if he's not paying attention to the time and he thinks the episode is almost over he'll yell at the TV "don't you end yet!" haha. love that husband of mine.

This weekend we just started watching season two. I'm telling y'all this is such a great show. At the end of a lot of the episodes in season two Josh and I will look at each other and go "Dun dun dun!" at the same time. haha. The plot thickens.
There's also much more that I've learned in season two, but I'll share those for another day. For now I predict several more late nights after the kids are in bed to get all caught up.

Mom Confessions and Mom Wishes

Morning, Y'all. Today I'm following in Meagan's footsteps and sharing some confessions. The ones she shared here were amazing, and so very true for probably a lot of moms out there.

I confess that... 

+ I still let Ainsley take a pacifier to bed. She's 18 (almost 19 months) and only uses it for nighttime. I would've been the same way with Zander but he got rid of his on his own. NO! I do not allow her to keep one with her throughout the day, it's just at bedtime. Yes, the doctors have said to get rid of it (thanks, Josh for actually telling the doctor), but in my opinion: it's not keeping her from talking, it's not hurting anyone, and it helps her get to sleep without difficulty. 

+ I sneak veggies in foods. Both kids are on a "non-veggie kick" so I have to sneak veggies into things like meatloaf and smoothies. 

+ I get way too frustrated lately that Ainsley is in a toddler bed and she insists on trying to come into the living room instead of sleeping. 

+ I try so hard not to talk about myself badly because I don't want my kids to think anything other than they're beautiful, talented, amazing, and creative.

+ I breastfed Ainsley, but didn't breastfeed Zander. Also, with Ainsley I was not shy about it at all. I was the obnoxious mom that would whip out a boob in public and feed her in Target if she was hungry. I was not the least bit shy about it, and I'm not the least bit guilty that one baby was a bottle baby and the other wasn't. 

+ I refuse to get on the cloth diaper train. I already do enough laundry (and even that doesn't get folded weekly). I'm not adding more to the mix! 

+ I have dishes in my sink from Monday's dinner. I know I need to wash them, but playing with my kids lately has been way more important. 

+ I haven't shaved my legs in over a week. Yep, #hairy. I don't care though because it's almost cool weather and I can't even wear dresses to work anymore anyways because I work in a glue factory. 

+ Zander went with me to my 6 week post natal check up after I had Ainsley, and yes he saw everything. Ever since then he's known girls have a vagina and boys have a penis, and we don't have silly names for them (like hoo-hoo dilly's). We tell it like it is in our house. Penis and Vagina aren't bad words, and kids need to know they're OK to talk about. (favorite post here) <- seriously, y'all go read this.

I have so much more,  but it could go on for way too long if I continue, so we'll leave you with this:

My wish is that society quits giving moms such a hard time for parenting the way that they want to.

Moms know their kids better than anyone. They know their quirks, personalities, etc. I wish more moms would realize just how truly special their kids really are. Don't worry so much about if you're doing a good job or not; you ARE! Happy Wednesday, y'all. If you're one of my fellow Mama Bloggers, you're awesome and don't let anyone tell you differently!
