TBT: Happy Independence Day!!!

Tomorrow is July 4. In America that means
Independence Day!

... No folks... sorry, we're not talking about the Movie.

We're talking about the day we celebrate our freedom!! A day of fireworks, cookouts, and most likely lake time.

I've always thought of myself as a very lucky girl. My dad is a certified pyrotechnic. So yes, obviously he likes playing with fire, but to be certified it means he has a licence to blow things up. Like fireworks.

When my sister and I were growing up, we lived with my dad. Every July 4th he and a few of his friends would meet in a random park in Chamblee, GA and do a fireworks show for the city. I always thought (ok, I still do) that it was the coolest that my dad could legally blow stuff up! Daddy's little girl, huh?

The shows eventually grew to where the city would advertise everything and a mini carnival was started. They would start festivities at 2 PM. There would be food trucks, vendors, games, music- the whole deal.
I'll never forget I nearly broke both of my wrists before the firework show one year. My dad was busy setting up so my sister and I were with our grandparents. Music was playing over the loud speaker, and something from The Backstreet Boys came on. Naturally I screamed and stared dancing like a fool. The grass was wet from a recent rain shower (like always on July 4 in Georgia!), so I slipped and the way I landed both of my wrists went way too far backwards! (OUCH!)

He doesn't do the show anymore because he's busy with his 9-5 job, but he's still licensed. I beg him every year to do a show for my kids.
What is your favorite July 4th memory?

This will be the last week for this link up with Amanda and I. We've both agreed it's not really going anywhere and other bloggers have started taking our ideas. We hope y'all understand. We'll be working on some new ideas for the future though!

TBT: I Love Vacations

Most of my family vacations were spent camping in St Augustine,  Florida. If you've ever been to Florida in mid to late July, you know the heat and humidity is unbearable. So needless to say, camping (in a tent.... roughing it) in that weather is not what most people would call the "most fun experience in the world".

However, I do have a favorite vacation though! My sister and I got the (amazing) opportunity to visit St Thomas island, part of the US Virgin Islands. My Aunt and Uncle lived there for about three years due to my Uncle's job. Tough living, right? So for two summers my sister and I got a chance to visit. Best vacation EVER!

While we were there we went to the beach everyday, snorkeled, and relaxed by the pool.

My Aunt knew lots of people in town on the island so we got some really good deals for parisailing and day charters on a sailboat.

I think sailing was my favorite activity. We left the dock at 9 am, sailed out to the north end of the island and anchored down. Then we were able to swim in the Caribbean or snorkel. While we enjoyed the water, the captain of the boat prepared lunch.

18 is the legal drinking age in St. Thomas so I  admit to being a little bit drunk on the sailboat. I'm sure Amanda got some drunk texts while I was there. he-he.
I'm in the towel making a face...
What was your first/ favorite vacation?

TBT: We Love to Eat!

Happy Thursday!  This week Amanda and I are talking about food! No lie, one of my favorite subjects (this is why I workout)

My love for food started at a young age. I have never, ever been a picky eater.
I can remember when my sister and I were still in elementary school my dad wanted to take us to a new restaurant. My sister protested loudly saying "I don't like it!" My dad's argument was the classic parent reply "how do you know if you don't like it if you've never tried it?"
I think the place he took us was a buffet style place. It was ages ago, and I don't remember what all we ate but I do know my sister's taste in food hasn't changed much.
I still will try new things. I like calamari, sushi, and veggies; Sis likes apples, chicken, and mac-n-cheese. Luckily at least one of my kids has my taste in trying new things (Ainsley)... Zander is the spaghetti and meat balls kid.

Were you a picky eater as a kid? What was your favorite dish? Share your story!

It's summertime now! Next week tell us about your first family vacation memory or your favorite family vacation!

When Life Gives you Lemons...

You make lemonade, right? Sure. That's what my grandmother said anyway. Well here we are making lemonade! I have a brand new blog (thanks to AMANDA!), and we're starting a new journey. To start my new blog we're linking up for Throwback Thursday Stories with Amanda. (If you haven't read her blog you need to... she's amazing).
This week: your favorite memory of a grandparent or great grand parent.
My Grandma was an amazing lady. I'm very sad she's no longer alive; I miss calling her after work each week to just chat. She had the funniest things to say about movies, music, raising kids... everything.
She was always one to give great advice. I really do miss her.

Grandma and I at my High School Graduation
My favorite memory with Grandma was when I was a little girl. She used to live on this really big house in Atlanta... on top of a hill. Whenever my sister and I would stay with her during the days she would open the front door first thing in the morning and say, "Hello, World!" The first time I heard her say it I laughed and said, "but Grandma, what is the world?" excitedly she answered back, "Everything!" waving her arms in a wide gesture. She loved teaching.

After breakfast with her we would always go on walks around her neighborhood. She lived in a big neighborhood that circled around so it was perfect for walking. During our walks Grandma would teach my sister and I the types of birds we saw, names of trees, and what poison ivy looks like (still thankful for that one!)
She was a very kind lady, and I'm very glad for being able to grow up with her in my life.

What is your favorite memory? Share it with us!

I'm very happy to be back in the blogging world! I've missed you all!
