Let's be honest with ourselves though. I'd say at least 99% of the moms reading would admit "YES! I have to have my hidden stash of *fill in the blank*" For me, it's york peppermint patties. I just love them. And I don't even like to share with my husband! Why in the world would I want to share with my kids?
Sure, that sounds rude. I'm sure there's folks (the 1 % that doesn't hide) out there that will say, "why even have them in the house at all?" Well, Mamas have to have a cheat day. Mamas have to have their go to snack treat that puts them into mommy heaven! Can I get an Amen?? I think it's safe to say that most moms will usually snack on their treats when the kids are in bed. But what about those hard days when nothing is going just right and you just have to have that fix of chocolate? How do you keep from your kids begging for the sweets too?
I have absolutely been known to hide in my bathroom. For the most part my kids still follow me in there. (When can I get privacy while I pee again?). Occasionally however, I can insist that they do not need to be in there with me. I insist that they go play and I promise to build them a couch fort for listening extra well!
When I know I can get away with sneaking a bite I definitely do that in the kitchen. I have loud kids. A two year old and a five year old play loudly. This goes to my benefit in that I can open a wrapper of something without them hearing me. I'll open quickly, sneak a big bite and run out of the kitchen. Sometimes I get busted with this though when Zander asks me a question and I have to purse my lips shut and hold up one finger as if to say "one second". He's a smart 5 year old. He knows not to talk with your mouth full, and he always knows my "one second" finger means I have food in my mouth. He always ALWAYS asks, "what's in your mouth mommy?" Thankfully, I can still get away with saying, "nothing". I'm sure it won't last long though!
I'm not ashamed of hiding from the kids though. I'm 95% sure my mom probably hid stuff from me and my sister. I'm fairly sure she hides from my little brothers now. Moms, you have to indulge sometimes. Moms for sure need a break! Sometimes that break and that indulgence comes in the form of an impromptu game of hide and seek. (True story: you hide, they will come looking for you!)
It's a little more difficult to hide something like these though!
What have you done to hide food from the kids? Do you hide in the bathroom? The closet?
Link up with us and share some of your favorite Mama hiding places. What's your favorite cheat snack?
Good to know that this isn't just a joke plotline about moms in movies, it truly happens. I'll have to start working on my treat hiding places now so by the time I have kids I've got it down.
ReplyDeleteMy kid isn't tricked when I say I don't have anything. :(
ReplyDeleteHa! This was a great topic. I am loving all yalls answers to this. I am glad I am not the only one that runs to the kitchen to hide for a quick little snack. Mine is usually cookies.. sadly. or chocolate.
ReplyDeleteHahaha....LOVE this!! I will be linking up, if I know when, next time. YESSSS. I am pretty sure I have consumed an entire jar of Nutella over the past week. All, while hidden in my pantry...and when I get caught, with my mouth full...not really many ways to try to get out of it ;)
ReplyDeleteBahaha oooh it's a real thing. even if you're hiding in the corner of the kitchen shoving a whole donut in your mouth. hahaha
ReplyDeleteI have a feeling it won't last long...
ReplyDeletegirl you're not alone. gotta have my York patties. lol!!
ReplyDeleteBahaha us moms are all alike in shoving something in our mouths to hide it lol!! I emailed you a list of topics and when they will go live. it's every Wednesday! nutella is sooo good!!!
ReplyDeleteI totally hide my good chocolate treats from Hubs. I keep them in my school bag or purse. He never goes in there.
ReplyDeleteGirl-you shouldn't have any guilt for hiding from the kids every once in a while. I don't even have kids and sometimes I still hide in the closet and eat cherry sours. My boyfriend will eat them all if I don't.
ReplyDeleteBeen there. Done that. I hide Twizzlers :)
ReplyDeleteMy little one (who is only two) will ask for "bite" if he sees me chewing. It's so funny that kids know to ask and that they just want whatever Mommy has even if they don't know what it is!
ReplyDeleteLOL I am picturing you hunkered down eating keeping one eye out for your kids and it has me laughing...
ReplyDeleteI'm safe with sour stuff and mint stuff hubby won't steal those!! lol!!
ReplyDeleteooohhh cherry sours are my jam!! I would hide those for sure!! yum!!
ReplyDeleteyummy! y'all are making me hungry mentioning all these cheat foods!
ReplyDeleteAinsley is two as well. she'll ask for something if she hears the wrapper or sees the bag. and she's quick too!!
ReplyDeletebahahaha that's accurate!!
ReplyDeleteIt's definitely not going to last long when you have something in your mouth and you say "nothing" lol my oldest is 6 and he's just too smart for all that.
ReplyDeleteI love it!! I hide just as much from my husband too! Oreos what there's no Oreos left! I say as I shove 6 of them into my mouth!! Lolol
ReplyDeleteooohh I know... my 5 year old is not far from catching on. hahahaha.
ReplyDeletehahaha!! AMEN to that. "what jelly beans? there's no more jelly beans". hahaha
ReplyDeleteThose cupcakes...drool! Also, I feel even now I hide in the bathroom. It's a beautiful place to get away from everything and everyone!
ReplyDeleteThis topic totally cracked me up... I may or may not hide in the bathroom with food, even though I don't have kids. Because HEY- sometimes I just don't feel like sharing!
ReplyDeleteI don't hide any foods now but I can imagine if I was a mama that i would have to hide my chocolate stash. That's for me alone!
ReplyDeleteI don't blame you at all!! at least you're getting good practice in for when you have kids!!
ReplyDeleteAmen to that!! lol.
