Training Made Easy with Orijen Treats

When we got Gambit last December, we didn't know a whole lot about him. We knew he was a little over 1 year old, and we knew that he was very much a people lover so there was no threat of him turning on us or the kids. We also knew that he had never been inside of a house ever... in his whole year of life... ever. Would this dog need a huge amount of training? I panicked a little... ok...  lot. But we had already committed to getting him and brought him home.

It's been approximately 3 months since bringing Gambit home and we've learned a lot about him. Mainly that he's very trainable! With the right encouragement of course. Enter  Orijen freeze-dried treats.

Gambit is barely one and very much a puppy. We got lucky in most of his training in that he pretty much just picked up on things without any real direction. Let me explain. You remember I said that he had never been in a house before coming home with us? This also meant that he never had been officially house trained. Shockingly, this wasn't a problem for us. We have to take him out the front door because he's still scared to go on the kitchen floor to the back door, but it's no big deal.
So house trained? Check!

We're even lucky in that he prefers to stay with us outside. Obviously Georgia does have leash laws, and we do obey them. However there's some days when the kids want to play out front on their bikes. I feel bad if Gambit is stuck in the back yard without us. We used to bring him up front with the leash, but that's no longer needed!
#BestDogEver!
What about chewing up everything? That was only a tiny issue. It was our fault though. We left the T.V. remote and a pair of slippers within reach, so those are sadly gone now. However, with us providing Gambit with plenty of bones and fun things to chew on he doesn't chew on anything he isn't supposed to.

All that was left was teaching him to sit, lay down, and stay on command. This has definitely been the most difficult to teach him. He gets super excited when we show him attention, and with the kids trying to help me train him, he doesn't really focus. I haven't been able to find the "perfect" treat to reward him when he does something correctly. Until now! These Orijen Freeze-Dried Treats are absolutely perfect. I can keep a few in my pocket for easy rewards and he LOVES them.

These treats are part of the Chewy family favorites line, and it's easy to see why. We love them in our house, and they are most definitely the first treat Gambit has has really shown any interest in!

Now if only I could train him to enjoy sleeping in his bed!

  3. He is sooooooooooooo sweet!! We have a big guy at our house too, and he is almost 10...such an important part of our lives (although I know at times, he has felt a little left out with the craziness of the girls :)). I have never heard of these treats...so glad they are working well! Our big fella has a sensitive tummy, so finding treats that settle is hard. Adorable!! xoxo
