I'm Healthy. I Promise...

Working out... we all know it's important to maintain a healthy body, right? Right. What about after you have kids? Uh, yes! Even more important to work out. You want to get your pre-baby body back, and you want your kids to follow in your footsteps to maintain a healthy lifestyle. Staying healthy isn't only limited to working out though. It's eating right too.

Maintaining A Healthy Lifestyle... With Kids!
Linking up with Christine, Brittany, and Ashley for Mama Tells All
Mamas Tell All

Moms everywhere know this is probably the hardest thing in the world. Y'all probably use the same excuses that I do, "I'm too tired", "I'll walk that doughnut off after the kids are in bed", "One extra slice of pizza won't hurt anything". Next thing you know, you're wondering how the hell your jeans don't fit anymore.

Life tends to get in the way. We all know this. The first half of this year I went to the gym 6 out 7 days of the week. I lost a TON of my baby weight from having Ainsley. Then in June, I lost my job and couldn't justify the cost of having a gym membership. Since then it's been SUPER hard doing anything to work out. I'm one of those people that pretty much has to get out of the house in order to do some sort of cardio. I say I'll do the workout DVD's but I always ALWAYS end up watching TV with Josh, flat on my bum. However, I've managed to at least maintain the weight I've lost, and knock on wood, not gain anymore.

I contribute this to watching the way we eat at home. I cook all of our dinners. Sure we have the occasional pizza delivered, or the rare Chinese take out, but for the most part I cook. Yes, I have to hide veggies from the kids in order to get them to eat them, but dang it they eat them!

I'm very lucky that my kids prefer to play outside. This helps with my maintaining my weight as well. We're a household that's a firm believer in playing in the dirt! When we're outside, I encourage the kids to dig in the dirt. I offer them to look at the bugs. We take nature walks. We stay active as a family, and I know this is teaching the kids healthy habits. Sure we have candy and treats in the house, but the kids know "only in moderation"... well, maybe not the big word, but they know they're not having treats all day long. If Zander really wants something sweet, I cut up apples and let him dip them in peanut butter. Such a yummy snack!

This is the last week for the Mamas Tell All linkup (insert sadface here!), and per my norm:
I'm linking up with Anne for Wednesday Wishes as well.
Love the Here and Now
This week, I wish I have the will power and strength to get back into my workout routine. I know I need to, I just need the extra push. I wish my husband gives me the encouragement I need to continue working out. I wish my kids continue to grow with a healthy mentality and continue to love playing outside. I wish other moms out there encouragement to maintain their healthy lifestyles as well!

AND!!! Don't forget! Next Wednesday starts the Monthly Musings linkup with me and Lora! The theme this month is what we're Thankful for for this month. Each month will have a different theme. The idea is to focus on the better parts of our lives! We can't wait to see what everyone is Thankful for!

  1. I love this link up, I'll definitely be participating! Also, I don't have kids but workout is never the easiest. It's so much or comfy to not do anything. Thankfully I love working out so it's not much of a struggle to get me to the gym. Let's motivate each other!

  4. Making exercise a priority is always hard for me to do. My husband and I recently started taking our dogs for long walks at night. I love it for 2 reason...exercise and we get alone time to catch up with each other. Win/win!

  5. I love this! Finding time away from my little ones is hard. I teach, and I try not to sit while I am there, four hours each day. I figure I am walking several miles. Running was my outlet for some "me" time...to distress. Now, I have found writing to fill that void, but I miss running. Great post!! So happy to have found your blog :)

  7. SO difficult. I have to push myself and remember that eating too much halloween candy isn't going to keep my weight down. haha.

  8. Thanks, sweetie! It's definitely hard some days when I don't feel like cooking after a long day- but luckily that's where the crock pot comes in and does all the work for me. ;)

  9. it's so hard. I've struggled with it definitely for the past 8 years. I was fine during school (thanks, swim team) now... it's difficult. I love that you and your husband go for long walks at night. great way to stay fit and catch up

  10. it really is hard, isn't it? great idea trying not to sit while at work. That probably helps a lot with staying active I'm sure. I'm trying so hard to enjoy running. I had a personal trainer tell me once that I'm good at it... I don't feel like I am, but I try. lol. Thanks for finding me! I always love making new friends!

  13. I definitely struggle making exercising a priority with DST. I do so much of my workouts OUTSIDE that when it's too dark to walk the mile and a half to the grocery store, I lose a lot of my motivation. I've been picking some good books to read on the stationary bike though, hopefully that helps! haha

  14. I could have written this! I need to work out so badly, but just cant get motivated. If I think about it, shouldn't I just do it?! Seems so simple!

  15. the idea seems so simple, but actually doing it? nope... not so simple. lol.

  17. ugh DST and I are not friends. it gets dark WAY too soon now.I think a book on the bike sounds like a great idea. too bad we don't have a stationary bike. lol.

  21. It is SO hard to make working out a priority once kids come along! (And being perfectly honest, I wasn't the best at it before them anyway, but I could always pull out 2 months of pre summer bootcamp so I wouldn't be so embarrassed to get into a bathing suit). I wish you all the willpower and motivation that you need to achieve the goals you want to achieve here!!

  22. Good job for maintaining! That is super important!!!! I need to get in a solid work out routine and eat better before I have kids so hopefully it'l be easier after. Right? hopefully.

  28. This is so inspiring, Melissa, I'm serious. Thank you for giving me the push to get back into it! It's so hard when the weather is cold outside... my walks have significantly decreased (in that I'm not taking them anymore, haha)

  29. Oh I can't wait to be done with this pregnancy so I can start working out again! I miss it! At least we still have our healthy eating habits! Thank you for sharing...sometimes I forget to just take Claire outside to play and go on a little adventure walk. I need to be better about that!
